Anne Frank nasceu numa família judaica alemã e teve uma vida normal até que a ascensão do nacional-socialismo obrigou a sua família a emigrar para Amesterdão. Apenas alguns anos depois, os nazis chegaram à Holanda e Anne escondeu-se com a sua família e mais quatro refugiados num sótão.

Nunca mais voltaria a viver em liberdade. Entre 1942 e 1944, a pequena Anne escreveu o seu célebre e comovente Diário, um testemunho único sobre o horror e a barbárie, ao mesmo tempo que um retrato comovente das experiências e sentimentos de uma menina de treze anos que escrevia para tentar escapar à sua própria realidade.

Anne morreu no campo de Bergen-Belsen em março de 1945, mas permanece connosco o seu Diário, ilustrado desta vez por María Hesse, que, com a sensibilidade, simbolismo e ternura características de «uma das ilustradoras com mais personalidade que há atualmente em Espanha» (Onda Cero), nos oferece uma nova luz sobre este texto icónico e dilacerante.

Anne Frank was born in a German Jewish family and led a normal life until the ascent of National Socialism forced her family to migrate to Amsterdam. Only a few years later, the Nazis reached Holland and Anne went into hiding, living in an attic with her family and four other refugees.

She would never live free again. Between 1942 and 1944, little Anne wrote her famous and chilling Diary, a one-of-a-kind testimony of horror and brutality, but all the while a moving portrait of the experiences and feelings of a thirteen-year-old girl who wrote to escape her reality.

Anne died at the Bergen-Belsen camp, in March 1945, but her Diary is still with us, this time illustrated by María Hesse, who, with the characteristic sensibility, symbolism, and tenderness of "one of the illustrators with more personality in Spain today" (Onda Cero), casts a new light over this iconic and heartbreaking text.
