Um casal sobrevive no centro da cidade Capital, sem a sentir como um

Marina, a narradora, é neta de uma migrante peruana e trabalha no arquivo do Museu de História Natural e Social, enquanto Pascale carrega a tradição da sua família lafkenche da ilha de Chilco, no sul do país, sobrevivendo graças a trabalhos de carpintaria. A sua melhor amiga, Leila, teve de deixar o Haiti para tentar a sorte neste país, que avança a passo firme para a sua destruição. A queda de um edifício na Gran Avenida, as crateras que começam a surgir sem causa aparente e um movimento social que se empenha em demolir tudo são sinais de uma decadência que parece irreversível, ao mesmo tempo que o casal e a sua amiga se organizam e lutam por uma existência mais digna.

É nesse momento que Marina e Pascale decidem migrar para Chilco, onde a

Marina, the narrator, is the granddaughter of a Peruvian migrant and works in the archive of the Museum of Natural and Social History, while Pascale carries the tradition of her Lafkenche family from the island of Chilco, in the south of the country, subsisting thanks to work carpentry. Her best friend, Leila, had to leave Haiti to try her luck in this country, which is moving steadily towards its destruction.
